Survey: residents prioritize academic achievement, safety and fiscal transparency

Trustee Gilmore and Assistant Superintendent Rosemary Marks presented results of a district community survey run on ThoughtExchange that drew 1,357 respondents. The survey sought input after the budget process and the district hope to use results to guide community sessions this summer.
Presenters said academic achievement and student success ranked highest among priorities, followed by field trips/enrichment opportunities and school safety and security. The survey showed a 43% favorability score for how connected respondents felt to the district and indicated an 84% preference for receiving information by email. Trustee Gilmore said the outputs point to a need for improved transparency and building-level outreach; staff said a one-page handout for parents would be distributed by June 30 and parent meetings are planned in July and August.
Trustees and staff said the survey is a first step and promised more targeted sessions that allow two-way dialogue; the district also plans to leverage partnerships and community resources for programming and funding where possible.
