Council adopts 2024 city property tax levy set at $10.45 million

City staff recommended and the Galesburg City Council approved the 2024 city property tax levy on Nov. 18. City Manager Mr. Hansen told the council the "2024 tax levy request has been established at $10,453,414, which is an increase of 2.66% when compared to the total amount of the current tax levy 2023 extension." The council approved the ordinance on final reading by recorded vote.
Staff provided an estimated property tax rate tied to the current estimated assessed value and said the rate would be approximately 2.433; staff added this was "0.101 cents less than the previous year's levy rate." The council recorded a unanimous vote to adopt the ordinance. The motion to adopt was made by Ms. Davis; a formal second was not specified on the record. The ordinance was listed as item 24-1023 on the agenda.
