Whiteville staff outline meter-replacement plan and smart-meter demo

S1 (Director) said the meter work is an extension of an ongoing meter project and emphasized replacement rather than new services: "It is just an extension of the meter projects that we've been going along with. And it's to replace the meters where it's a radio read system."
S1 described newer small meters demonstrated in town that can report temperature and pressure data and help catch pressure differences before breaks occur. He said staff have begun installing pressure-reading devices on dead-end lines and that remote control features — turning service on and off from the office — can pay back the meter cost in months at addresses with repeated service issues.
