Board clusters priorities: MTSS/inclusion, budget advocacy and EdTech/AI among top goals

During a sticky-note clustering exercise, board members placed suggested items into four quadrants (goal, work session, fireside chat, superintendent report) and began refining which items should rise to board-level goals.
Three main priorities emerged: 1) multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and implementation of Urban Collaborative recommendations for inclusion and behavior supports; 2) budget monitoring and state-level advocacy, including starting the budget process earlier and aligning community surveys with funding uncertainty; and 3) educational technology and artificial intelligence, with a balance between learning and policy work.
Directors said budget advocacy should include inviting state legislators to visit schools and aligning board messaging. On EdTech and AI, members favored a learning-year approach that could turn to policy recommendations if staff analysis indicates gaps in current technology or policy. The board tasked the chair and vice-chair to work with staff to refine the clustered items into actionable goal language and an annual calendar for work sessions and superintendent reports.
"Let's keep adding to that," the chair said as members endorsed clustering items into the goal and work-session buckets. Staff will provide recommended timelines and help form small leadership groups to implement the chosen priorities.
