The board then nominated and elected Dr. Michael Darnell Lee as vice chair; Lee told the chamber he is "really excited to get to work with you all." The roll call for the chair vote showed all five commissioners voting in the affirmative.
Members used their post‑oath remarks to outline immediate priorities. Commissioner Wendy Jacobs emphasized local government’s role in addressing housing affordability, supports for people experiencing homelessness, and services for aging residents; Commissioner Michelle L. Burton thanked family and pledged to work for Durham County residents. Commissioner Stephen J. Valentine thanked endorsers, community organizations and family members for support.
