The Durham County Public Health Department received the Dr. Sarah Taylor Morrow Health Department of the Year Award from the North Carolina Public Health Association, a recognition commissioners and department leaders said reflects 20 years of collaboration through the Partnership for a Healthy Durham.
Board members praised the public health team and highlighted specific accomplishments such as the community health needs assessment and community health improvement plans. "Every cent that this great board invests in public health directly benefits each and every one of you," Public Health leadership said while accepting the award.
Separately, the board voted unanimously to recognize multiple public-health grant awards during the meeting, including a $120,000 award to support school health (budget item 0655) and a $230,000 award for evidence-based behavioral health interventions (budget item 0654). Commissioners described these as part of ongoing efforts to expand prevention and youth-focused services in Durham County.
