City manager outlines June special meetings, operations-complex contract and timing for budget discussions

City Manager Williams told the West Linn City Council on June 2 that the June 9 meeting was canceled and the council will instead hold a special meeting on June 16 and another on June 23 to complete budget actions before the end of the month.
Williams said the June 16 special meeting will include a life-saving award and is likely to include the award of a construction-management and construction contract for the operations complex. He told councilors that the June 23 special meeting will handle the community grants approvals, adoption of the budget, fees and charges and state shared revenue items that must be completed before the end of June.
Councilors discussed when to begin a longer conversation about the city’s multi-year budget pressures and possible additional services or positions; several members favored beginning that work in a July 7 work session. Mayor noted a possible need to adjust meeting times because of upcoming law-school classes but said they will remain in office.
The council did not take formal action on any budget items during the June 2 work session; staff will return with contract documents and the scheduled hearing/award items.
