West Linn council issues three community proclamations, community groups outline events

The West Linn City Council on Monday adopted proclamations recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day (June 6), National Pollinator Week/Month and Juneteenth as part of a series of community observances.
Carla Pemberton, a volunteer with Moms Demand Action, thanked the council for the gun-violence proclamation and urged residents to participate in Wear Orange events on June 6–8. "If you hear 1 message today, let it be that gun violence is and can be preventable," Pemberton said, noting national casualty estimates to underline the urgency of prevention work.
The council also read a proclamation for National Pollinator Week/Month and affirmed West Linn’s status as a Bee City USA. Tara Lincoln, parks and recreation recreation supervisor, invited the public to a community pollinator event at Mary S. Young Park on June 20 from 4 to 7 p.m., with plant giveaways, crafts, a pollinator scavenger hunt and booths featuring Oregon State University Master Gardeners and local groups.
Council President Baumgartner read a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth (June 19) and encouraged community reflection and events that promote knowledge and appreciation of African American history and culture. The proclamations were presented as part of a broader council agenda that included departmental updates and project briefings.
