Farmingdale secures county and federal commitments as Well 1‑3 treatment nears completion

Deputy Clerk Daniel Ruckdeschel said additional testing for newly monitored contaminants will cost approximately $16,000 per well. The Board was also informed that County Legislator John Ferretti committed $1 million to offset costs for the new water‑treatment systems and that $500,000 of that amount has been received. Village officials reported that Congressman Thomas Suozzi informed the Village a $1.1 million commitment has been secured in the 2025/2026 Federal Budget; staff characterized that commitment in the transcript as "not a reimbursement grant." The village is following up on required testing to secure funding from legal settlements and potential federal and county funding.
Staff said Plant 2 construction had resumed and a master schedule being prepared by PRI is expected to run through completion, with an anticipated end date around 2025‑05‑01. Officials also reported successful tests of backup interconnects and the Ridge Road emergency generator, steps they said will ensure redundancy for Well 1‑3 while remaining work continues.
Next steps listed by staff included completing follow‑up testing required for WIIA grant payment and continuing engineering evaluations of ground tank roofs and antennae on elevated tanks.
