Farmingdale outlines water-treatment progress, $1M county grant and $1.1M federal commitment

Village staff and consultants updated the board on progress at the water-treatment sites. Philip Ross reported sampling and testing at Well 1–3 following AOP/GAC installation and said the well is now fully operational; a steel building covering the GAC tanks has been completed. Staff reported additional testing for newly monitored contaminants will be approximately $16,000 per well.
Plant 2 construction re-commenced on or about Nov. 6, 2024, and a master schedule prepared by PRI targets completion of all well work by May 1, 2025. PWGC is following up on required testing to secure funding from legal settlements and potential federal and county sources; Deputy Clerk Daniel Ruckdeschel assisted in finalizing required submissions.
County Legislator John Ferretti committed a $1 million grant to offset treatment-system costs, and the village reported receipt of a $500,000 payment. Congressman Thomas Suozzi informed village officials of a $1.1 million commitment in the 2025–26 federal budget; minutes note this is not a reimbursement grant. D&B is evaluating the ground-tank roof and structure and analyzing elevated-tank antenna replacement by AT&T. Deputy Clerk Ruckdeschel also reported that water revenue is up and more customers are using auto-pay; lead-and-copper letters have been sent to residents with galvanized services.
