The North Las Vegas City Council appointed Araya Ramos to the city's education advisory committee for a term ending Aug. 19, 2027. Araya accepted and thanked the mayor and council, saying she would "bring up my peers" and represent high-school students in North Las Vegas.
The council also approved another education advisory appointment (transcript contains inconsistent spellings of the appointee's name; the appointee was not present). Council members moved and approved the reappointment of Scott Black as mayor pro tem for a term ending June 30, 2026; Black briefly recounted growing up in the city and pledged to continue serving Ward 3.
In the city manager's report, staff noted that more than 10,000 IT tickets had been resolved year-to-date and announced six police promotions effective Sept. 6: three promoted to sergeant (Gabriel Suarez, Joseph Manelli, Ryan Johnson), two promoted to detective (Christian Carrillo, Alexander Cuevas), and one promoted to lieutenant (Shane Airedales). The promotions were described as internal personnel actions and not subject to separate council votes during the meeting.
Motions to approve the appointments and the mayor pro tem reappointment passed on the council floor. Where transcript spellings or present/absent status were ambiguous (notably the second student appointee), the record lists the appointee as "not present" and the council's motion nevertheless passed.
