City staff update committee on charter review timeline, microgrant rollout and Aug. 9 back‑to‑school event

Wilson Ramos, director of community services and engagement, provided three staff updates at the Aug. 4 meeting.
Ramos said the charter review committee reviewed two applications (from PLA and NECA) that were found incomplete and that the council has moved for denial; those applicants have a 30‑day appeals window and the review will conclude by the end of the week with further council action expected at the Aug. 20 council meeting. He also said microgrants for administrators and teachers will be released at the end of September and committee members will be notified by email when the application period opens.
Ramos closed by announcing a back‑to‑school event Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Neighborhood Recreation Center hosted by council members Barron and Anderson; he said the event will provide backpacks, supplies and other services for students preparing to return to school.
