Council proclaims Parks & Recreation Month, Disability Pride Month and Farmers Market Week

The council began its work session with a series of proclamations recognizing community programs and events. Mayor Bielstoski and council members read proclamations honoring Parks & Recreation Month (July), Disability Pride Month (July) and National Farmers Market Week (August) in conjunction with the Wednesdays in Willamette Summer Street Market.
Alyssa, the recreation coordinator, described the Parks & Recreation Month theme and summer programming: "The theme for this year is build together, play together, and it is this theme is to highlight the vital role that parks, recreation programs, and the professionals who manage them to to build strong, vibrant, and resilient communities." Recreation Supervisor Tara highlighted upcoming events including a dog show at the Adult Community Center, a car show in August and music- and movie‑in‑the‑park programming.
Councilors and staff used the proclamations to thank volunteers and highlight coordination between parks, police and public works for large events such as the Old Time Fair.
