Sewer crew encounters groundwater exceeding state limits; staff to design pretreatment plan

Contractors installing sanitary sewers on the BOT 2 project encountered groundwater at Court Avenue and test results showed levels that "exceeded Indiana limits," staff reported.
"We ran into some groundwater, and we tested it. And it exceeded Indiana limits," a staff member said, noting the crew stopped and will implement a groundwater pretreatment plan before resuming sanitary sewer work at that location. The speaker said the water level in the trench dropped this week and crews moved to storm sewer work in the meantime.
Staff said they are coordinating permits and working with Indiana American Water on water system permitting and site cleanup. The commission heard that, as of Jan. 24, about 12.4% of the contract has been completed; staff said storm sewer work will continue next month and design work will start on a detention basin south of Court Avenue.
