Council backs Vision Zero goal in principle, asks staff for measurable interim targets

Lorraine told the council the resolution will need a target reduction and timeline as part of the SS4A leadership commitment and asked for council input so staff can draft a red-line resolution.
A representative of BikeWalk KC cautioned against treating Vision Zero as solely a PR slogan: "Vision 0 is aspirational... Until we change infrastructure, attitude, culture, and have the investment and commitment to do that vision 0 is just an aspiration that we will never reach," the speaker said, urging the council to pair any target with funding, infrastructure changes and public education.
