DPW updates: Yoakum Street park, Altice/LIRR tunnel decision and intersection lighting review

Highway Department and DPW staff briefed the Board on recent and planned public‑works activity. Staff described routine lot and Main Street maintenance, regular garbage pickup in parks and dog stations, and completion of the new Yoakum Street Park; a berm behind the park remains to be finished in spring 2025.
The Board recorded a decision to accommodate Altice by tunneling under the LIRR tracks along North Main Street; Altice must submit final plans to LIRR for approval. Trustees also asked Superintendent Patanjo to evaluate lighting at the Melville Road and Secatogue Avenue intersection to address safety and visibility concerns. Staff said Phase Two of the Linwood project began on Jan. 6 and will take roughly three weeks to complete, with coordination ongoing to relocate services if necessary.
