Doug Guile told the board Parks and Recreation produced a heat-stroke safety video that won an award for "Best safety message for 2025," and he presented the department's trophy. "That was our heat stroke video, which was a winner, and we this is the trophy we got," Guile said during staff comments.
Guile also reported two recent back-to-school events: on Aug. 2 at SMRC Silver Mesa pool where the department handed out about 1,000 backpacks (about 20 left at the end) and on Aug. 9 at a neighborhood rec center where the department distributed roughly 2,000 backpacks plus school supplies, haircuts and shoes. He said the events had large turnout and praised staff and elected officials who attended. The board commended Parks and Rec staff for the outreach and for maintaining a safety culture for field workers and program participants.
