North Las Vegas honors swift-water rescue team for July 18 life-saving response

Sergeant Justin Miller recounted a multi-unit response that afternoon: "We got the call about 3PM... We just missed her... Luckily, we're able to get, Lucy and Alexander where officer 1st met the female going underneath the bridge... She was in the water for 8 miles," he said, describing how officers used stop sticks and hobbles during the rescue. Mayor Pro Tem Black and council members thanked the team and invited the group to a photo; community members and council praised the calm, quick actions that, officials said, made a life-or-death difference.
The city emphasized that the HOME team and COP (Community Oriented Policing) teams coordinate with the police on outreach and response, and council members used the recognition to underscore the broader importance of response capability in dangerous wash conditions.
