Residents filled the council chamber during public comment on Jan. 28 to support continued services from the Jeffersonville Animal Shelter and to call for shared oversight.
Jen Fuller Renfro, who said she has volunteered at the shelter for a year after finding multiple stray dogs near her home, thanked the council for approving the agreement and urged formation of a citizen advisory board to address root causes of animal welfare problems. "We don't expect government to solve all of our problems, but we also hope our government will not contribute to the problem," she said.
Jeffrey Donneal commended council members for asking difficult budget questions and called for better inter‑municipal communication. Lauren Perry Rent Lynch said she reviewed Jeffersonville's 2025 budget submission and reported that personnel costs were about 75% of projected shelter expenses, and she urged a municipal board so each jurisdiction has input in budget creation.
Speakers repeatedly praised shelter staff and volunteers and asked the council to follow up on process and transparency. Several residents who had signed up to speak either deferred or offered brief comments, underscoring widespread local engagement.
