The Finance, Administration & Economic Development Committee on June 17 recommended that the governing body designate Judge Cynthia Cornwell as interim presiding judge of the municipal court following the recent retirement of Judge Ryan Dixon.
Staff explained that Resolution 51-28 requires the governing body to appoint a presiding judge and described the presiding judge's duties — including daily court administration, rulemaking for municipal practice and scheduling dockets — and noted the position carries an additional 5% of the judge’s annual base salary while serving as presiding. As staff said, “Our previous presiding judge was judge Ryan Dixon. He just recently retired, so, the governing body needs to appoint a presiding judge.”
Committee member 9 moved the recommendation and the motion passed unanimously. The committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full council for formal appointment and any subsequent personnel or payroll adjustments.
