Council asks how department requests compared to recommended budget; staff cites $8M in requests, $4M included, $2M for Axon

Council members asked staff to quantify the gap between department requests and what made it into the recommended budget. Gina said the city received about $8,000,000 in total requests and that roughly $4,000,000 was included in the recommended budget; of the $4,000,000 included, about $2,000,000 related to the Axon police project, which staff characterized as moving money from capital rather than an entirely new recurring expenditure.
"I believe we received about $8,000,000 worth of requests. We included about 4,000,000, and of that 4,000,000, about 2,000,000 was for the Axon project," Gina said. Council member Logan summarized that the net gap between requests and included items therefore amounted to about $4,000,000 and noted the capital-improvement side may differ.
