The presentation included a staffing proposal to create two community service officer positions in the police department to respond to nonemergency calls. Laurie said the change would be accomplished without a net increase in FTE by converting traffic personnel rather than adding sworn officers, and the positions are designed to free sworn officers for other duties.
"We have the creation of 2 community service officer positions in the police department to help advance this effort... and there is no net increase in FTE in order to accomplish this," Laurie said. The proposal also includes funding for cardiac monitor maintenance and training for public-safety operations as part of base-budget adjustments.
