City code constraints shape guidance for front‑yard pollinator plantings

Quentin told the committee that Bee City is preparing a recommended do's-and-don'ts guide to help residents design pollinator plantings that meet city property-maintenance rules.
"We want to allow it, but we do have rules in place... your lawn can't be more than 8 inches high," Quentin said, explaining the practical limits for front-yard plantings and the difference between a maintained garden and a front-yard prairie that could prompt a code-enforcement call.
He said the guidance will include photographic examples of well-maintained tree-lawn pollinator gardens and suggested that backyard, enclosed patches are less likely to draw enforcement if they are not visible from the street.
