County announces Durham Thrives guaranteed-income pilot and new RISE Assessment Center

Clerk Clark Wallace read meeting announcements including the launch of Durham Thrives, a guaranteed-income pilot administered by Durham Children's Initiative that will provide 125 randomly selected applicants with $750 per month for 12 months. An additional 125 families will be randomly selected to complete monthly surveys for 12 months and will receive $100 per completed monthly survey.
Clerk Wallace directed residents to the program website for eligibility details and signup notifications. Commissioners acknowledged the announcement and Commissioner Jacobs asked county staff to provide the total county funding supporting food-security grants and similar programs; staff said they would follow up with details.
Chair and other commissioners also announced that the RISE Assessment Center, a county-funded facility for youth ages 10–17 facing social, emotional or behavioral challenges, opened on Jan. 6 at 2432 Broad Street and will provide voluntary, cost-free services Monday through Friday.
