On Oct. 14 the Westminster City Council voted to accept a $95,000 Undiscovered South Carolina grant for a William Bartram statue and interpretive panels, matching it with $95,000 in local funds for a $190,000 project budget. City Administrator Kevin Bronson described the statue plan and supporting documentation provided to council.
A grant award letter from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism states the application "has been approved for funding, pending a site inspection and the execution of a Grant Award Agreement." The letter was signed by Duane Parrish, Director of SCPRT. The council approved acceptance of the grant (motion by Daby Snipes, second by Ruth May) with a recorded vote of five in favor and one opposed.
