Tanisha, the city arts liaison, told the commission that Art Drop is scheduled for April 20–25 and asked for help securing sponsors or donations of art supplies, naming Plaid as a prior sponsor and noting difficulty reestablishing contact with Prismacolor.
Staff proposed a different distribution model—a swap meet or free-exchange format at the new Dresden building that could include on-site skill-share sessions and small activities. Tanisha said the high school art club has previously assembled kits as a volunteer project and recommended having supplies ready about two to three weeks ahead (staff suggested aiming for supplies by April 1 to avoid spring break). She also raised social-media monitoring as a priority and said the event typically uses the hashtag noted in the discussion (transcript: "art drop chambli").
Commissioners suggested potential partners including Scrap Atlanta, which staff and members said might offer discounted materials or referrals; one commissioner warned about quality control for in-kind donations: "if we do get a lot of random donations... that's the you're sorting through almost trash sometimes, like expired markers and stuff," a commissioner said. Commissioners agreed to follow up on sponsorship leads, kit-sourcing, volunteer assembly, and social-media-monitoring tools and to continue planning offline.
Staff expects to involve volunteers on a Saturday format and will circulate more details as they finalize partnerships and timelines.
