Beaufort Water Festival outgoing commodore ends reign with a jump from shrimp boat

Matt Golden reported that Dusty Vickers, the outgoing Beaufort Water Festival commodore, ended his tenure by jumping from the Gracie Bell during the blessing of the fleet and later swam to shore to deliver his final remarks. The program said Corey Talbert, a 17-year volunteer, was chosen to lead the 71st festival in 2027.
Golden relayed Vickerss comment to local media that the jump was planned. Golden said Vickers told the Buford Gazette and Island Packet, "I can't recollect a commodore actually jumping off a ship boat," and that Vickers said the move was intended to "end the festival with a splash." The segment noted Talbert succeeded Vickers and that the festivals change of watch occurred during the Commodore's Ball late in the 10-day water festival.
