DDA approves city easement for Chamblee–Dunwoody roundabout; about a dozen parking spaces affected

The Chamblee Downtown Development Authority on Feb. 24 discussed a city request for a permanent easement of DDA land at 5442 Peachtree Road to construct two roundabouts on Chamblee–Dunwoody Road. Staff said the permanent area totals about 8,667 square feet and the project also includes temporary construction easements.
Staff member said the easement will remove parking in a frontage area and estimated ‘‘it was about 8,667 square feet.’’ Board members asked whether restriping or reconfiguration could recover spaces; staff said the city has offered to model the layout and the DDA would follow up with the city engineer, Matt Dunnigan, on exact parking impacts.
Board members and staff noted the city hopes to combine two nearby projects to shorten construction from as long as 18 months to about a year and expects to begin construction as soon as June. The staff briefing also emphasized that the DDA must address the existing Wheels Up lease and secure an amendment before executing any permanent easement.
The board did not take a formal final conveyance vote on the easement at the meeting; the chair said the legal and property implications, including a permanent loss of roughly 0.2 acres, will be discussed further in executive session.
