Councilor Ed McManamon moved that the Mayor sign a request letter to Governor Mike DeWine seeking Opportunity Zone consideration for both the north-end and south-end census tracts; Mr. Albaugh seconded and the council voted by roll call with all ayes.
Mr. McManamon described the action as "simply a request" rather than an application process and indicated the letter in council members’ packets was prepared by Jessica (clarified in discussion). Councilmembers discussed which tracts the request would cover and whether including both tracts could affect the north-end designation; Law Director Costa Mastros and others said they did not expect the joint request to jeopardize the application.
The council’s motion authorized the Mayor to sign and send the letter; staff will take the administrative steps required to forward the request to the Governor’s office.
