Steubenville officials said a new bulk water filling station at 320 South High Street has been calibrated and opened for use, intended to make bulk-water sales more efficient and to improve billing and public safety compared with previous honor-system fills from hydrants. Water Superintendent Jim Jenkins described two-inch and four-inch hookups, an overhead arm for larger tankers and, for small tanks, a price of $10 per 1,000 gallons.
Jenkins said the station will accept cash and credit card and that larger water haulers can be issued access codes to streamline transactions. Council members framed the project as a small revenue generator for the city and thanked Jenkins and his staff for completing the startup work.
