Council adds $5,000 for Juneteenth, mayor urges single community committee for 2027

Steubenville City Council on March 24 adopted Ordinance No. 2026-13, appropriating an additional $5,000 for this year’s Juneteenth celebration. Councilman McManamon opened discussion on future planning, and Mayor Ralph Petrella said the city will encourage organizers to form a single community committee to produce a larger, consolidated event in 2027.
Mr. McManamon asked for council’s input on next year’s organization; Mayor Petrella said, “we are going to encourage everybody to come under one umbrella and form a singular community committee, that way we can have an enhanced celebration in one general location.” Councilman Mayo said he had not been briefed on the consolidation plan. The ordinance was adopted by roll call and will take effect April 23, 2026.
