Commissioners spent a substantial portion of the meeting planning this year's Chalk Walk, focusing on where to site professional artists and how to manage vendor logistics.
Liaison Tanisha said the commission is "really thinking about putting a little more of the budget into the professional, chalk artist side, so that we can get more chalk artists" and that contractor Zach prefers clusters of at least three squares so artists aren't isolated. Commissioners explored closing part of Peachtree for usable ground but raised accessibility concerns for wheelchair users; Tanisha noted some sidewalks and ramps are inadequate. Angela suggested routing vendors one way to avoid logjams and keep circulation flowing if the street closure is used.
The commission also discussed alternatives (the gazebo/old city hall sidewalk, shaded areas for school teams), and the need to coordinate vendor load-in and breakdown so artists working early in the day are not blocked by vendor traffic. Staff said the professional-artist contract and proposal work will begin soon to firm up scope and budget.
