City planning staff recommended rezoning several parcels west of Peachtree‑DeKalb (PDK) Airport to the airport zoning district and spoke in favor of a proposed 33‑space commercial parking lot to serve a fixed‑base operator.
Matthew Park, the applicant working with Passaro Associates, said the client appreciates planning staff’s cooperation and is prepared to adjust fence details. “The client has no issue with the additional conditions and is preparing to move forward with a different fence than was noted in the variance applications,” Park said.
Staff supported incorporation of the properties into the airport character area but recommended denial of two concurrent variances (a fence height increase and allowing chain‑link in the front yard), finding insufficient hardship under the UDO. Neighbors raised a notice concern — Ronnie Mayer said he did not receive mailed notice for the hearing — and several speakers emphasized the parking shortage on the airport side of the property.
Council members confirmed the proposed lot would be fenced and primarily intended to serve employees, with potential limited client long‑term parking; staff and applicants said any future change of use (for example, hangars) would require separate council action.
