DeKalb Animal Services staff introduced Penny, a 7‑month‑old, energetic shelter dog available for foster or adoption, during the Chamblee City Council meeting.
"She is 7 months old," the agency representative said, and added that Penny had been at the shelter about two weeks and was "still getting used to the world." The staff member told the council the DeKalb facility's intake/census was at 472 animals, noting that figure is below the shelter's typical goal of 475.
Staff described an upcoming Healthy Pets DeKalb event on Feb. 28 at the assembly where residents can receive free rabies vaccinations, DHPP/FVRCP depending on species, microchipping and spay/neuter vouchers. "We will not do the procedure right then and there on the 28th, but we will give you a voucher that will, later on, you can that for a free spay or neuter surgery for your pets," the staff member said.
Council members responded briefly and encouraged adoption. The presentation closed with a request for continued volunteer support and community engagement around animal services events.
The council took no formal action tied to the presentation beyond receiving the update.
