Town project updates: Old Farms Road, Tillotson Bridge permitting, AVFD design and retirements

During the Town Manager’s report on April 3, staff provided updates on ongoing and planned capital projects. The Old Farms Road North/South landscaping and remaining pavement work are scheduled with planting by fall; the Town hopes to have East/West design options for review in June. CT DOT’s box culvert work near Talcott Notch Road was described as 80% federally funded, 20% state funded, and projected to be complete in 2027 with bike lanes in both directions.
The Assistant Town Manager said the AVFD Fire Station Building Committee completed a prioritization workshop; results plus feedback from an upcoming membership workshop will inform design alternatives and cost-reduction options. Construction documents for 200 Fisher Drive are nearing completion and the Board of Education is expected to occupy the building this summer; a permit was approved the afternoon of April 3. The Manager also noted that Public Works Inspector Doug Stahl will retire after 35 years; the Council will present a resolution on his last day.
