Avon Council approves explanatory text process and sets poll hours for budget referenda

The Avon Town Council voted April 3 to authorize the Town Clerk or a designee to prepare and distribute an explanatory text for the proposed FY 2025–26 budget in accordance with the Town Charter and Connecticut General Statutes Section 9-369b. The Assistant Town Manager said the explanatory text typically accompanies the handout for the Annual Budget Meeting and that Council could review referendum materials before publication if desired.
Separately, Council approved extending polling hours for the Town Meeting Referenda to 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 14, 2025 and for potential subsequent dates if needed. Council discussed logistics for posting materials at polling places and noted coordination with the Town Clerk and Town Attorney will be required for any printed materials at the polls.
