The Avon Town Council awarded Four Seasons Landscaping, Inc. of Windsor a contract not to exceed $396,470 to complete the federally funded portion of the sidewalk replacement project along West Avon and Scoville Roads. The Assistant Town Manager said the work is funded primarily by a $424,000 federal earmark obtained in 2021, with a $106,000 match from ARPA funds, making a $530,000 total project budget.
Project one’s scope begins near 466 West Avon Road, continues to the Avon High School driveway (skipping an existing newer section), then resumes at Sudbury Way around the corner onto Scoville Road; the later project phase will pick up the remaining segments. CTDOT has authorized the award to proceed. The Assistant Town Manager said there may be an opportunity to extend the sidewalk by change order if grant funds remain. Council approved the award on a motion by Mrs. Barthel, seconded by Mr. Weber; the vote was unanimous.
Councilors discussed pedestrian safety at the Scoville and Burnham Roads crossing and noted pavement-marking needs. The project is intended to improve pedestrian connectivity to schools and trails and to allow future lateral sewer connections in some areas.
