Assistant administrator Mr. Johnson told council the city met with Congressman Rulli and county officials about federal funding for an EGCC parking lot project; Jefferson County had submitted a related federal funding request and the city intends to provide a letter of support. He said deadlines for senator-level funding requests differ and that the county and city are jointly pursuing the same funding streams.
Councilmember Mayo objected to department heads meeting with county officials about water-design decisions without council oversight, saying such decisions should be based on need and funding rather than external preferences. Mr. Johnson replied the city is seeking collaboration and proposed a 50/50 split on engineering costs, but said there is not yet a named developer to obligate contributions. Mr. Johnson also reported Parks & Rec is short-staffed; the part-time secretary resigned and interviews for the director position were scheduled.
