Several council members reported complaints about large potholes and failing pavement on the ring road and entrances around the mall complex, saying the condition was deterring customers. "I received several complaints from people complaining about the outer road around the mall... that's full of potholes and people can't drive in the mall," Mr. Walker said.
Mr. Walker asked the city manager to send a follow-up letter to the mall owners requesting repairs and said the city could patch problem areas and place a lien if owners fail to act. Law Director Costa Mastros said the city could probably effectuate repairs and place a lien for costs but cautioned council that the city should be judicious before entering private-property maintenance and should review costs before taking action.
City Manager Mavromatis said he would gather numbers on repair costs and the legal path forward; no repair was authorized at the March 3 meeting.
