City Manager Jim Mavromatis told council the Parks and Recreation director job description had been provided and the position was posted on Ohio Means Jobs, the Herald Star (dates listed), Indeed, the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association and the city's website; he said the posting had produced one applicant so far. "I passed out the council, the Parks and Rec director. The position went over the dates that are being advertised..." Mavromatis said.
Council members pressed for clarity about the hiring process. Law Director Costa Mastros said the Parks and Recreation board "makes the recommendation to hire, and then city manager approves it," and offered to provide the charter language so council could resolve differing recollections about whether the board's role was mandatory or advisory. Council asked Mastros and the city manager to provide the relevant charter sections for review at the next meeting.
Council also noted a Parks & Rec board meeting on March 9 and that Mavromatis would meet with the board soon to explain the posting and the process. No hiring decision was made at the March 3 meeting; the matter remains an administrative process item with follow-up documentation requested.
