The Dell Rapids Library Board approved a proposed 2026 holiday and closing schedule designed to streamline decisions about staff vacations and program planning.
The library director explained the new consolidated schedule lists a few Saturdays and two Thursdays with adjusted hours, and noted the library would close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Dec. 24. The director said full‑time staff are generally expected to use vacation time for planned closures while part‑time staff may have other options; certain paid holiday decisions remain subject to city council policy.
A board member said she wanted the library to keep in mind that "the library is an extremely safe place for kids" during winter closures. The board moved to approve the 2026 days off schedule by voice vote.
