Transit agency proposes cutting seven routes in five-year plan; route 24 may be eliminated

Angela Swanson, senior transit analyst for the Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority, presented the five-year Short Range Transit Plan and said the authority faces funding challenges that will require service adjustments.
Swanson said the agency currently operates 27 routes and is "looking at cutting 7 of the routes and consolidating the remainder in various ways. Bus stops may be spread apart a little further, and frequencies may be a little longer. Bus route #24 from Abbie to Riverbank is looking at possible removal due to lack of riders." The SRTP presentation framed the changes as necessary to match available funding to service levels.
The council did not approve any route changes; the SRTP is a planning document and public feedback, including comments from Empire residents, will inform final decisions.
