Councilors seek hearing on Orange Line extension and rapid-transit inequities along Blue Hill Avenue

Councilor Worrell urged colleagues to "look up the MBTA map overlaid on top of the city of Boston" and said the resulting transit gap covers a large portion of Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan. "We're being asked to give up parking in any new housing...and then we're told that our only option is a bus rather than a train," Worrell said, linking transit deficiencies to gaps in wages, education and health outcomes. Sponsors said they planned hearings before any vote.
Procedure: after discussion and an appeal about committee assignment, the chair directed that both dockets (1340 and 1341) be referred to the Committee on Civil Rights, Racial Equity, and Immigrant Advancement for hearings and staff follow-up. No capital-commitment or funding decision occurred at the session.
