Dr. Dillman (presenting staff) told the board teachers reviewed a new online portal offered by the existing publisher and chose a slightly updated physical edition so students could have printed books and reduce digital distractions. She said teachers will still have access to online teacher tools and there will be enough physical books for students to take one home and for additional classroom copies.
Mr. Chung (board member) moved to adopt the materials and Mrs. Yi seconded; the motion passed by voice vote, recorded in the meeting as "Motion passes 4 0." Board members questioned whether teachers and students are gravitating back to printed materials in some subjects and staff said that in math and history some teachers prefer physical books.
Staff noted price differences were modest for this adoption: the district said shipping made the physical set and the online access cost about $1,000 different for this adoption example but not significantly different overall.
