District replaces aging fiber; staff locate a decades-old 'Ninja Turtle Vault' during Arcadia High upgrades

Arcadia Unified's technology and innovation team updated the board on Dec. 9, saying the district completed CALPADS Fall 1 certification (the required state data submission that affects funding) and began infrastructure work at Arcadia High School to replace decades-old fiber optic cable.
"We're diving into construction at Arcadia High School...some of these cables have been in place for 40 plus years now," said Mr. Ghazanian, who described finding a 30-year-old document that labeled a missing fiber junction the 'Ninja Turtle Vault.' He said the bond-funded work will replace that cable to the boys' and girls' locker rooms and gym spaces, improving speeds and network stability.
The technology update also acknowledged substantial effort by the district network team and noted the replacement is part of the larger facilities bond work. The CALPADS certification was reported as complete, and the district is awaiting official state review to confirm final funding calculations tied to the submission.
