Avon earns Gold Leaf Award; Cleveland Clinic opens hospital food bank in Avon

Council Member Mary Berges announced that the City of Avon won the Gold Leaf Award from the Ohio Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture and thanked City staff, the Tree Commission and Arborist Rick Varga for the effort.
Berges also told the Council that the Cleveland Clinic in Avon has established the first hospital food bank in the region through Second Harvest to help address food insecurity; she said Mercy Hospital and University Hospitals are expected to follow suit. Separately, Safety/Public Service Director Duane Streator reported the City now has about 900 tons of road salt, an improvement from earlier shortages.
Council members including Mrs. Demaline, Ms. Etienne and Mr. Moore praised the promotional video and congratulated the Tree Commission on the award. Ms. Patton thanked administration staff for addressing early-morning dumpster pickups near a residential neighborhood.
