Facilities update: Hugo Reid Park fencing finished; Arcadia High locker-room work requires DSA review, portables slated for replacement

At Arcadia High, the locker-room modernization has uncovered damaged wood frames and roof substrates that require tearing off roof materials and additional structural work; Mr. Barrios said the Division of the State Architect (DSA) regional manager has toured the site and will need to sign off on structural reviews before work proceeds. Mr. Barrios emphasized the district is coordinating closely with DSA to get plans stamped and continue work safely.
At Hugo Reid Park Mr. Barrios reported the fencing is complete and a notice of completion appears on the agenda; gates are keyed for district and city access and the district has installed locks and will coordinate with the city to add shrubs to soften the iron fence. Trustees discussed weekend and off‑hour public access and whether signage or a contact number should be posted; the board asked staff to investigate options such as a cane bolt to hold the gate open when appropriate.
On portable classrooms, Mr. Barrios said eight portables currently on site are slated for phased removal and replacement with a two‑story modular building similar to previous work at Holly Avenue. The proposed building would provide approximately 10 classrooms (two larger flex spaces), restrooms and an elevator; staff said site logistics, parking and input from teachers and school-site stakeholders will guide final placement and design.
Trustees asked follow-up questions about restrooms, elevator access, after-hours access and community use of existing huts. Mr. Barrios confirmed restrooms and staff single-occupancy facilities are planned and confirmed ongoing coordination with city staff on weekend access.
