Board reviews first readings of lactation accommodation and immigration‑enforcement response policies

The Arcadia Unified Board on Feb. 10 reviewed proposed updates to two board policies during the information‑item portion of the meeting. Nurse Manager Erica Newkirk (introduced by the superintendent) presented proposed revisions to Board Policy 4033 to bring the district into alignment with CSBA model language and current federal and state requirements. Newkirk said the policy "explains how the district supports employees who need time and space to express breast milk after returning to work for up to 1 year after the birth of a child" and that the substantive purpose of the policy is unchanged.
Mr. Anderson (Speaker 21) introduced a first reading of Board Policy 1445, "Response to Immigration Enforcement," stating the update follows Education Code §234.7 as amended by Assembly Bill 495 and that districts must adopt language equivalent to the Attorney General's model policy by March 1, 2026. The board asked to bring both items back on consent for a future meeting.
No board member proposed changes during the first reading; staff confirmed the items will be returned as consent items for board approval following the required review.
