Parent describes dangerous pick-up traffic near Highland Oaks Elementary, urges city action

During the audience comment period, parent and resident Ringo Xuan described witnessing a vehicle collision near Highland Oaks Elementary during afternoon pick-up and urged the district and city to pursue safer drop-off arrangements.
Xuan told the board he witnessed a collision around 4:35 p.m. on Oct. 9 outside the school and described narrow streets and congested pick-up activity that can lead to dooring collisions and other hazards. “3 weeks ago, on October 9 at 04:35PM, I witnessed a car accident right outside from, Katy, High Desert Oak Elementary School,” Xuan said, and described following up with the Arcadia Police Department and the city engineer and planning to raise the concern with PTA leadership. He encouraged working with parents, the PTA and city staff to create safer adjacent drop-off or pick-up areas and said he planned to seek an agenda item at the city council if necessary.
President Chavez thanked Xuan for bringing the concern to the board. No formal board action was taken; the speaker urged coordination with PTA and city engineering to develop safer traffic solutions near the school.
