Board praises Arcadia High learning walk for hands-on CTE and student leadership

Board members and district leaders told the Arcadia Unified School District board on Feb. 10 that learning walks at Arcadia High and other campuses highlighted strong career‑technical education, student leadership opportunities and transferable skills.
Dr. Forsey (introduced to the meeting by the president) summarized the high‑school learning walk and noted student and staff panels "are a wealth of information" that set a positive tone for classroom visits. Board members described seeing project management and interpersonal skills embedded in classes such as culinary arts, photography, yearbook, graphic design, intermediate dance, stagecraft and video production.
One board member said the CTE pathways created a "triangle of excellence" from exploration in earlier grades, through pathway introduction, to near‑mastery in upper‑level classes where students use professional equipment. The board also praised cross‑age literacy, academic mentors and examples where seniors taught or mentored younger students. "I was absolutely impressed," a board member said of student work and instruction.
District leaders said the learning walks guide shared practices, support instructional alignment across campuses and inform future site visits; student reports and showcase events were cited as evidence of broad engagement.
